Sophie, Countess of Wessex and the wife of Prince Charles’ brother Prince Edward opened up about Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s decision to leave behind their royal titles and move away from the palace. That being said, Harry’s aunt revealed that she tried to help the former actress and stressed that she hopes ‘they will be happy’ no matter what.
During an interview for The Sunday Times, Sophie discussed the current situation, being one of the few royal family members touching upon the topic.
As you may know, aside from the Queen’s official statements, the other blue bloods have remained generally quiet about it.
But the Countess knows all too well what Meghan has been going through since she came from a middle class family and worked in PR before she joined the royal family.
Also similarly to Meghan, she had to deal with all the criticism coming from the media, even having her topless pictures leaked to the public not too long before her wedding to Prince Edward back in 1999.
During the interview, Sophie stressed that ‘We all try to help any new member of the family.’
It’s no secret that Sophie and Meghan get along quite well, the two being seen chatting at public events many times.
‘I just hope they will be happy,’ the 55 year old royal went on to add about Meghan, Harry and their young son, Archie Harrison.
She then discussed her own experience and how it differs from the one of Meghan.
‘Remember I’d had five years to adjust, and for our 6-month engagement I was even staying at the Buckingham Palace. Not that you necessarily know how it will all pan out,’ she stated.
This comes after Harry and Meghan announced their decision to give up their royal titles and duties on March 31.

In the meantime, they have moved to Los Angeles alongside their 1 year old son.
